Meet the Staff

Tom and Connie Adelsman

Tom and Connie both grew up in the Minneapolis area.  After meeting while attending Bethel College, they started their lives together in Sioux Falls, SD where Tom was the Minister of Music at Central Baptist church.

Over the next years Tom served as Minister of Music in several churches and graduated from Bethel Seminary - twice! (M. Div. and D. Min).  In 1991 he took the position of Missions Pastor at Overlake Christian Church in the Seattle area.  Most recently Tom served on the Pastoral staff at Oak Pointe Church in the Detroit area.

Tom and Connie moved to Gilbert, AZ in May of 2007 when Tom assumed the role of Director of Church Relations for The Finishers Project.  Over the years Connie has stood side by side with Tom in the various ministries they have been involved with.  Being an accomplished pianist herself, she has also taught many students how to play and love the piano.  Connie is employed at Central Christian Church in Mesa in the areas of music and media.

Tom and Connie have three married children - Brian, Brad, and Katie - all living on the West Coast.

The Bridge serves to keep you connected with the amazing ministry and impact of Finishers Project.  We welcome your feedback, so please call or write.
AMike Singletary Boomers Life
Philosophy

"The greatest thing I can do with my kids, my spouse, my friends, the players that I coach and the coaches that I coach with, is to be an example.  I want to live this life.  You've only got it one time, but I want to live this life as best as I possibly can in a way that honors God."  (By Boomer, Mike Singletary, former Chicago Bears All-Pro and Super Bowl champion, currently Assistant Coach for the San Francisco 49ers.)

Quote taken from an interview with Mike Singletary in Significant Living magazine (Vol 1 Num 4)
Why There Are Boomers

Just over seventy-eight million of us.  Born between 1946 and 1964.  Around twelve million of us are Christ followers.  The largest, wealthiest, most educated, healthiest generation produced so far in this country.  Shaped by the radical movements of the 60's, empowered by the technological advancements of the past two decades and imbued with a never-say-die commitment to leave a legacy - the Boomers.

Social science and demographic studies demonstrate the obvious:  the grand euphoria of the post-WWII era produced many babies.  We were ready to start again, the future was bright, we were  safe and pointed towards a new future.  Building a family was an expression of this new hope.

While all that is true from a human perspective, we in Finishers believe there is a higher, kingdom perspective as to why we see this unique generation called Boomers.  We believe God knew exactly what kind of work-force he would need from North America for this time in history and designed the influences and opportunities that would produce just such an army.

The previous generations had produced a powerful force of kingdom-workers who spread out across the globe with the gospel of Jesus Christ.  They were, for the most part, a people with church-related vocations and Bible and Theological training.  They were missionaries, carrying the message of forgiveness and salvation, establishing churches throughout the globe.  They did their job well.  The church grew worldwide.  The results of their efforts are obvious today.  When we hear the words "missions" and "missionary" today, we think of their work, their style, their values, their training and their ministry models.  That is "missions" for most of us.

Today, however, the times, the needs and the methods have changed.  Not the message.  Not the need for the gospel message.  But how to effectively continue to spread the message of the kingdom has changed.  The previous methods were good and right for their time and will always be appropriate in certain settings and locations.  But globalization, communication, world economy, language usage and travel have combined to produce new opportunities which open the door to new methods.

From our perspective, the Boomer generation, in the providence of God, has been trained by corporate America with the work skills, the education and the experience necessary to enter the cities and countries still needing to hear the gospel.  Their preparation, in contrast to the previous, church-focused vocations, has been in the market-place.  They are equipped with the work-place skills, educational background, business experience, management training and people skills which are in demand worldwide.  Businesses, governments, non-profits, churches and  schools, both here at home and globally, are looking for what this unique generation has to offer.

This has not taken God by surprise.  It may be taking some of us by surprise, but we believe God has been building this team of global impact workers for such a time as this.  We believe the next 20 years will see a profound kingdom impact in this world, as believing Boomers use the skills and passions that have developed this country to spread the presence of Jesus around the globe.  That is certainly our passion in Finishers.  We exist to help Boomers connect with world-wide opportunities for significant impact!

We're Moving!

By the time you receive this newsletter we will have moved to new office space!  We have been praying for and looking for donated office space for quite some time.  God has not provided it to us free of charge but we do have a very favorable lease at a cost that is well below the going rate in the Gilbert/Chandler area in greater Phoenix.

We will have just over 2,000 square feet with a beautiful reception area, 4 offices, a conference room, a copy/storage room, kitchenette, restroom and a large open area where we can set up cubicles for additonal offices as needed.

Please make note of our new address:

Turkish World Outreach has been a partner with Finishers/MissionNext for only about nine months, but we have made contacts with numerous people who have shown interest in our area of ministry.  One family wants to serve in Northern Cyprus.  We have also linked up with a young family, who have moved to our headquarters city, Grand Junction, Colorado, and is volunteering by doing IT work in the home office, while he works at another job.  We are thankful for the Finishers Project as it focuses on people who have some Christian maturity and life experiences which are very useful in sharing Jesus with people who have never heard of Him.  We are also thankful for the website, which has a treasure trove of people who are being led by the Holy Spirit to put aside their secular work and wealth to pursue work which will make a difference for eternity.
